I Am Harmony

A Book About Babaji
Radhe Shyam
2nd edition

One of the earliest Western accounts of Bābājī, built around His own recorded words. The back cover carries the tradition’s own summary: the Haiḍākhāṇ Āśram traces back thousands of years, with two appearances in the last century at the village of Haiḍākhāṇ in the Kumaon foothills, where the temples on the hilltop were raised in the 1890s and further āśram buildings during the 1970–1984 ministry. It closes with Bābājī’s own words: “Here in Haidakhan the old world has been destroyed. I am teaching you this: THE NEW WORLD BEGINS FROM HERE!”

Babaji: Gateway to the Light

Gertraud Reichel
G. Reichel Verlag · 1990

A first-hand record of daily life around Bābājī, in Haiḍākhāṇ and on tour, drawn from the author’s visits between 1978 and 1984. Reichel later founded her own publishing house specifically to keep Bābājī material in print — this is where that began. Not sold new in the United States; the copy Isaac holds carries the publisher’s own cover, a sun-and-flame device around Bābājī’s face.

My Years with the Himalayan Mystic
Vijay Gupta
trans. Namita Kala · HarperCollins India

The most directly relevant of these nine to what this library already holds — it turns on Mahendra Mahārāj and Ācārya Viṣṇudatt Miśra (Śāstrījī), central figures in our own translations. Before leaving his body in 1969, Mahendra Mahārāj gave Viṣṇudatt Miśra a mantra and told him that whoever truly returned as Bābājī would chant it unprompted. When Bābājī appeared at Haiḍākhāṇ in 1970 and did exactly that, Viṣṇudatt declared Him the return of Mahāvatār Bābā. Gupta was Śāstrījī’s disciple from his teens, and writes an honest account — including the times he was at odds with his own master.

My Life with Babaji
Gaura Devi

Gaura Devi — born Valeria Bonazzola, a Milan-trained scholar — travelled to India in 1972 and spent twelve years with Bābājī, among the first Westerners to reach Him and His first Italian disciple. The book is a first-person account of that time: a story, in her own words, of love between a woman and the Divine.

The Secrets of Guru Gorakhnath
recited by Bābājī
Reichel Verlag

Verses recited by Bābājī Himself, attributed to Guru Gorakhnāth — the great teacher of the Nāth yogī lineage that Haiḍākhāṇ’s own tradition reaches back toward. A rare instance of Bābājī reciting scripture rather than being described by others.
